December 4 – Annual Christmas Party
The family farm represents the traditions and heritage upon which our families and the state were built. Jared McDonald will present resources to gather farmland history, using online sources to view historic maps and photos.
The Heritage and Century Farm Programs, administered by the State Secretary of Agriculture and the Iowa Farm Bureau Foundation, honor those families that have owned farmland for 150 and 100 years, respectively. Members will explain the significance of the programs and the simple steps to honor your farming legacy.

Here you will find updat

Paul Rambow, family historian, describes his presentation as “a mix of imagery, family information, and storytelling. This project has been a thousand years in the making and is now ready to cross 3700 miles and a millennium in time to tell of families, places, and memories from Madison County’s past.” Paul will provide plenty of humor and information about his Madison County roots.

The Madison County Genealogical Society has been given a unique opportunity by Winterset alum, MCGS member, and DNA enthusiast Glenn York . He has arranged to visit from Colorado to teach us how genetic information can further your family research.

Glenn contacted us months ago with the proposal that he would take a road trip back to his roots in Madison County and put on a class as a fund-raiser for the Madison County Genealogical Society. Since retirement, Glenn has concentrated his time in studying DNA as it pertains to genealogy. He has attended conferences, hangs out with the “big names,” and won awards. For a recent award, see Jimmy B. Parker Scholarship Awarded for SLIG 2019. Read more…
