July 2025 Presentation Video Released

At the July Madison County Genealogical Society Meeting, Linda Griffith Smith gave a PowerPoint presentation on portions of the IAGenWeb Madison County website that are extremely useful, but may be overlooked – Composite Census, the yellow search box, and more.

MCGS August 5, 2025 Meeting

Our program, starting at 6:00 pm, is a look into the Armstrong and Morgan families that settled in St. Charles. Their story starts with their ancestors fighting together in the Revolutionary War, then fighting on opposite sides in the Civil War, but ends with living together as friends in Madison County. Colleen Peterson has researched this connection for several years and will provide an overview of the turmoil and triumphs of this relationship.

The program is open to all; membership not required. A business meeting will follow for those who choose to stay.

Our program, starting at 6:30 pm, is a look at a few of the most informative portions of the IaGenWeb.org/madison website, given by County Coordinator, Linda Griffith Smith. The whole website contains golden nuggets of family history, but she will concentrate on a few special places such as the Composite Census, all-site search, and the Madison County Family tree with over 100,000 individuals grouped in families.

The program is open to all; membership not required. A business meeting will follow for those who choose to stay.

Our program, starting at 6:30 pm, is The Final Salute, given by Dennis Allen. Dennis and Cris Nagla are long-time genealogists who partnered with Hamilton’s Funeral home to respectfully inter cremains that need assistance with that final step. Open to all; membership not required.

A business meeting will follow for those who choose to stay.

Our program, starting at 6:30 pm, is a family tale of uncovering the details of a mobster-related Illinois murder. Colleen Peterson’s investigation may provide new research hints for you. 30 minutes with business meeting following. Open to all; membership not required.

No fooling!

March weather prevented us from kicking off our 2025 programs and activities, but we are eager to tackle both in April. Programs will start next month, because we have much to discuss about winter projects and planning for the warm weather months. There are cemeteries to walk, new photos to take, gravestones to clean, family brick walls to break through,… So come join the fun. All are welcome.

After an overview of the 2024 work done to reclaim Viney Cemetery in SE Madison County, our business meeting will review progress on current projects. Then we would love to hear what genealogical adventures you are undertaking. All are welcome.

MCGS October 1, 2024 Meeting

MCGS member Glenn York will present Madison County Pioneers at our October 1 meeting in the Winterset Public LibraryNote that the MCGS meeting will begin at a special time – 6:00 pm, 30 minutes earlier than usual.

He will explore his maternal grandmother’s ancestry in Madison County.   Buried here are her parents, grandparents, and great grandparents, along with four of her 2nd great grandparents.  Five of Glenn’s ancestor families arrived in the Peru area before 1860: Allcock, Hillman, Hoover, Ray, and Travis.  These names were once common in the Peru community, but today few descendants remain in Madison County.

Come hear all about it on Tuesday, October 1, starting at 6:00 pm (one-half hour earlier) in the Winterset Public Library meeting room. All are welcome.
