Collect. Preserve. Share.

Sepember 3 – Winterset City Park Grant

The Madison County Genealogical Society program (7:00 pm, Winterset Public Library) will be a public meeting for all those interested in the recently awarded state grant that will be used to nominate the Winterset City Park to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).  In this short presentation, John Pletchette (Winterset Parks & Rec Director), Linda Griffith Smith (Madison County Historic Preservation Commission Chair), and historian Leah Rogers (Tallgrass Archeology, LLC) will explain the upcoming process and how various groups are working together.

The outcome will be a complete history of the park using board minutes, newspaper articles, photos, and much more that all go into the required nomination.  A successful NRHP nomination opens the door to other grants that would help restore the Park’s aging structures.

A nostalgic photo presentation of the park through the years will be shown on the screen.  Perhaps you have something to share about the Winterset City Park?  We’d love to hear it.

The Genealogical Society monthly programs are always free and open to the public.  A short Society meeting will follow the program for those who are interested in attending.

This project is supported in part by the State Historical Society of Iowa, Historical Resource Development Program.
